Former Australian captain Mark Taylor says Marcus Harris will be under pressure to hold his place in the Boxing Day test in the opening race if David Warner misses Adelaide.
Warner’s bruised ribs may still force him to miss the pink ball test in Adelaide Oval. Usman Khawaja and impressive Australia A-performer Bryce Street will compete to replace him.

But if Khawaja ends up in a partnership with Harris, who has the lowest opening stroke average in Ashes history after 3 and 9 * results in Gabba, Taylor believes it could turn Adelaide into a club to see who becomes Warner’s partner when he returns.
“In a way that is likely to put a little more pressure on Marcus Harris,” Taylor said said in Nine’s Outside the Rope program.

Khawaja averages 96.8 for test opening, while Harris averages 23.15 for tests and 29.38 for tests in Australia.

Butcher said England should have shown more confidence in Leach after playing in New Zealand in late 2019.
He said England had to find out if it had a spinner who could emulate the role of Australian Nathan Lyon.
