US Open champion Emma Raducanu tests COVID-positive, retires Mubadala World Championships

Abu Dhabi:

US Open champion Emma Raducanu has a positive COVID-19 test and has withdrawn from this week’s Mubadala Tennis World Cup. 16.-18. At the show event in December, the British 19-year-old star will face Olympic winner Belinda Bencic in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. “I was really looking forward to playing in front of the fans here in Abu Dhabi, but unfortunately after I got a positive Covid-19 test, I have to postpone the next event,” Raducanu said.

“I will isolate according to the rules and hopefully get back to court soon.”

The statement from the tournament organizers added: “Emma is now isolated and following all the necessary protocols. We wish her a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on the field soon.”

The male players participating in the tournament are Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.

Raducanu is scheduled to travel to Australia after Christmas to prepare for next year’s first Grand Slam 2022, which starts on January 17th.
