Virginia prep QB Ethan Vasko is committed to KU football

Kansas football head coach Lance Leipold and his staff found they were preparing their quarterback for the 2022 recruiting class when Ethan Vasko announced his commitment to Jayhawks on Monday night.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound QB in Chesapeake, Virginia, Vasko just last weekend helped Oscar Smith High win his second consecutive Class 6 state championship.

Competitors currently rate Vasco as two-star potential, while 247 Sports ’combined rating gives Vasko three-star talent.

His promise to KU came a day after Vasko announced his resignation from Old Dominion. Vasko also previously picked up scholarship offers from Charlotte, Connecticut, South Florida and Virginia Tech, among others.

One of those deals was from Buffalo, and it came while Jim Zebrowski, now a QBs coach at KU, was still at UB with Leipold.

Vasko told Jon Kirby Jayhawk Slant that Zebrowski, who has recruited him to KU, likes the fact that the young QB is not playing tight.

“I have a loose throw and I can play with my feet too,” Vasko said. “He likes that I can get out of my pocket and make any throw on the field. He said he likes my character, how I lead on and off the field, and the way I can connect with players.

QB’s announcement made it eight employees in the prep and juco ranks who are currently committed to KU’s next category. It is expected that Leipold and his staff will use the transfer portal to reinforce much of the 2022 class, and they have already received transfers from Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State and Buffalo.

KU’s recruitments have the opportunity to formalize their commitment at the start of the early singing season on Wednesday. The national signing date for the 2022 recruitment class is 2 February.
