The tribute is awarded to an elderly twin couple from the city of Limerick who died the same day over the weekend.
ary McKie and Archie Brown, 89, of Ballynanty, both died on Saturday, the Limerick Leader reports.
Mrs. McKie’s funeral was held at St Munchin Church in the city yesterday, while Mr Brown’s funeral was held at the same church this morning.
Ms. McKie died peacefully at Limerick University Hospital, while her brother died peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
My canon Donal McNamara, who held both funerals, has described the twins as “wonderful” people ordained to the church.
“They were great people and I knew them very well. Mary was a wonderful woman. He was very committed to the church. I brought him supper every month, ”he told Independent.ie.
“Archie was a wonderful man, a wonderful husband, a wonderful father and he was a god to his grandchildren.
“He was a great man in sports and all kinds of sports – from rugby to football, fishing and table tennis. He really loved his sports and helping people.
“What else can I say about them, they are a lovely family and both Mary and Archie were always very committed to their faith and the church,” he added.
Mr Brown worked at Bus Éireann and was involved in the Athlunkard Boat Club and Shannon Rugby Football Club. He was left with his wife Anne, his children and grandchildren.
Mrs. McKie was preceded by her husband John and her son John, followed by her children Greg, Deirdre, Mary, Phyllis, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. McKie was buried yesterday at Mount St Oliver Cemetery, while Mr Brown was buried at Mount St Lawrence Cemetery this morning.
The RIP.ie site has shown respect for the twins, and friends describe Mrs. McKie as a “lovely woman” and an “easy soul,” while Mr. Brown was described as an “absolute gentleman.”
