Cricket fans beat the “farce” situation that has forced Pat Cummins out of the second Ashes Test

Australians have reacted with shock and disbelief to the decision to resign captain Pat Cummins after he was identified as a close contact in a positive Covid case.

Cricket Australia announced Thursday that Cummins had been identified as close contact after a meal with a person who got a positive test result while having dinner at Adelaide on Wednesday night.

“As a result, Cummins will not be able to play in the second Vodafone Men’s Ashes Test in Adelaide starting today,” the statement said.

Cummins expressed his disappointment on Twitter and said he was “embedded” in a missed test match.

“It’s very frustrating, but Covid has been throwing curves at us all over the last couple of years.”

Cummins did not violate the Covid protocol while visiting the restaurant.

‘That’s nonsense. Even honest people who have supported deliberate health interventions will lose patience with ridiculous policies, such as the quarantine requirement, after a negative outcome.

“So a man who has a negative test is vaccinated and works with people who are all double-vaccinated will be forced to retire from their job,” fan David Robertson tweeted.

Test players Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon dined at the same restaurant as Cummins, but outside at a separate table. They were considered to have occasional contacts and are free to play in the test match.

Cummins is expected to be available for the third test in Melbourne, which begins on slaughter day, December 26th.
