England have now dropped to seventh on the World Cup table.

Last summer, Australia received a 40 per cent fine on their slow payout in a Boxing Day test match against India at MCG.

The Aussies were also deprived of four World Championship points, which eventually paid them a place in the final of the test championship.

However, England assistant coach Graham Thorpe was not surprised by the over-interest problem, and he told reporters on Thursday: “I think bigger things are happening in the world than over-interest.”
