Australia reached stumps on the third day 45-1 with a lead of 282; Joe Root scored 62 goals when England lost 236 in innings, while James Anderson did not finish 100th in test cricket.

Australia may still be in control of the second Ashes Test, but Sky Cricket’s number crusher Benedict Bermange has all the key stats on some of England’s landmarks achieved during Day 3 in Adelaide.

Captain Joe Root was England’s second-best scorer in his turn. He scored 62 goals and played 138 in a series with Dawid Malan before his team won by 236.

Rootin 62 was his captain in the 37th half century, breaking Sir Alastair Cook’s previous England record of 36, while his 11th point as at least 50 captain against Australia broke Peter May’s record 10.

It was the eighth time he had reached the age of fifty in Australia and he failed to turn it into a century. Only Bruce Laird (nine times) has achieved fifty times more in the Australian tests without ever achieving a three-figure lead.
