Shreveport, La. • The BYU football team must win the final game of the season without the services of a starting quarterback.
Baylor Romney started in place of Jaren Hall in Saturday’s Independence Bowl match against the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He threw 15/23 195 yards in the game.
BYUtv first announced before the game the news that Romney was about to start.
“Jaren Hall will be available when needed,” a team spokesman said, but the hall would likely only be used in an emergency.
Hall is said to have won the injured team against USC. After a post-game press conference in Los Angeles, he walked off the podium with considerable lame.
Hall was seen on several reports getting off the team’s bus before Saturday’s game of walking.
But Hall was on the field before the game, in his uniform, warming up with the other quarterback. BYUtv announced that the Hall would only be used in an emergency.
Romney has played in four games in 2021. He has thrown 57 yards with 41 goals and has six touchdown passes.
