Washington Football Team vs. Philadelphia Eagles – Studs and Duds

Playoffs? PLAYOFFIT ???

It looks like the ship has been sailing – and honestly, we really aren’t a playoff team. Forget the COVID department we set up outside of Ashburn last week, or the carousel that has been our line of attack … this team won’t achieve lasting success until we get “That Guy” under the center (and maybe it didn’t even matter last night). – because “That Guy” could also have contracted COVID).

Tuesday’s game against the Eagles was a disaster before it even began. The drama of the week before this game was an obstacle that even the brilliant Bill Belichick could not have overcome. We were overwhelmed and overcrowded – and it would have been a fantasy to expect nothing more than yesterday’s result.

Below are my Studs and Duds of the game, followed by some notes.

Pins:

Ride a sweatshirt – Sweat came back from a fracture of the jaw and COVID this week and made its presence felt early. He had a total of three tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble for Jalen Hurts, which Landon Collins recovered from.

Landon Collins – Collins had the advantage of being in the right place at the right time on Tuesday night. He got a kidnapping (which bounced from Goedert’s heel straight into his hands) and a fumble return that Montez Sweat forced on the Hurts sack he returned with a nice win. He had six tackles (four alone) in the evening.

Jonathan Allen – In the evening, the captain collected seven tackles (five alone), a sack (he now has eight and a half), stuff, and several pressures.

Tress Way – Hit five times, averaging 48 yards per boot, long 60.

Good luck:

Line of attack – The Eagles front misused this Patchwork unit, allowing pressure on almost every Gilbert drop and not being able to generate much thrust in the running game. Sam Cosmi looked VERY rusty on his return, and Saahdiq Charles and Keith Ismael were human turnstiles for most of the game.

Linebacking Corps – The group, led by Cole Holcomb and Jamin Davis, was pushed around all evening. When you look at the result of the boxes, you see a total of 10 tackles for each player, but that’s nowhere near telling a story. This line of defense crumpled all evening, and the linebackers made tackles sometimes 10 yards down! And forget to try to cover your tight head …

Dyami Brown – Why is he even on the field at this point? He has squat. Let Cam Sims or Dax Milne see more time. Maybe 2022 is faster.

Notes:

– Gilbert played pretty well in the circumstances. He shot a few down shots, but generally made good use of his checkdowns and outputs. You can’t expect much more from the guy who signed on last Friday.

– Terry McLaurin was targeted only four times in the evening, pulling two of them 51 yards, but the Eagles game was against him, so he didn’t get much individual coverage.

– Antonio Gibson never got it on the ground, as he only got 26 yards in 15 moves, but he found his way to the end area already at the beginning of the game by getting over the line out of the yard. He got six receptions at 39 yards. Also note that he did not bark!

– Humphries dropped a touchdown that Gilbert threw at the start of the game. The ball literally hit the chest!

– Jeremy Reaves saw his first extensive action of the season, and his performance was really mixed. He led the team in tackles with 12 (nine alone), but was beaten a few times at the table setting and he handed the touchdown to Ward (where his coverage was actually pretty good).
