Kahuku dominated Saint Louis tonight from 49 to 14 and cut off the Crusaders in the first four consecutive open division Hawaii High School Athletic Association state football championships.

At Skippa Diaz Stadium in Farrington High School, a crowd of nearly 3,500 people saw the Red Raiders win their ninth state championship and their first since 2015, when they won the Crusaders 39-14 (when Division I was the highest rating).

Chicken Loa Kaluna led Kahuku’s attack by 138 yards with 16 moves and three touchdowns.

The Red Raiders (10-0) jumped 28-0 after Kana Loa Kaluna scored a 6- and 4-yard touchdown, Malosi Lefau rebounded the 29-yard cut and Liona Lefau grabbed a 19-yard touchdown. From Jason Mariterag.

Three Kahuku touchdowns came after Saint Louis handed over. The Red Raiders restricted Crusaders star quarterback AJ Bianco to 11/20 to 143 yards and -4 yards in six moves.

Saint Louis (6-4) returned to the game with a 2-yard touchdown from Boston Opetaia and a 46-yard pass to Trech Kekahuna from Bianco, making it 28-14 at halftime.

Kahuku also started strongly in the second half when Mariteragi found Kaino with 61 and 16-yard touches from Carvalho. Carvalho grabbed six passes for 135 yards.

Liona Lefau got a stop at 4:18 in the third quarter to stop the race in Saint Louis.

Kaluna scored again in Kaluna’s second 17-yard run with 8:45 left.

This was the 16th time Kahuku and Saint Louis faced football in the state championship series or the Prep Bowl (the de facto state championship match before 1999), and Kahuku won for the sixth time.
