National competitions were proposed to be held in 11 Gandaki districts

KATHMANDU: The 9th National Games will be held in Gandak Province. Although a national sports jamboree is held every two years, it could not be held at Baisakh 2078 BS due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The eighth national games were held in the province of Lumbin in 2076 BS.

The National Sports Council (NSC) plans to hold national competitions around the 2079 BS Baisakh or Jetha month.

Meanwhile, Gandaki has begun preparations, including playground selection, infrastructure oversight and training. A total of 35 matches will be played in the national sports competition. It has been suggested that folklore and folk dance be included in national sports from the 9th Games onwards.

The Western Regional Sports Development Committee has sent the NSC a proposal to hold at least one game in all 11 districts of Gandak. Laxman Yogi, head of the office of the Western Regional Sports Development Committee, said a proposal has been sent to all districts to make the competition live and inclusive, even though most of it will be held at Pokhara Stadium.

Pokhara is meant to play men’s and women’s sports such as men’s soccer, athletics, boxing, weightlifting, volleyball, badminton, religion, handball, hockey, squash and shooting.

Similarly, Pokhara hosts gymnastics, tennis, soft tennis, cricket, cycling, archery, swimming, golf, fitness, paragliding and a men’s and women’s triathlon. However, women’s football is held in Syangja, Taekwondo (men / women) in Baglung, karate (women / men) in Lamjung, table tennis (women / men) in Mustang, Kabaddi, wrestling and Khokho (women / men) Nawalpur and Judo and Sepakatakro (women / men) In Gorkhassa.

Similarly, basketball (men / women), chess (men / women) will be held in Manang, ITF Taekwondo (men / women) in Myagd, full-contact karate (men / women) in Syangja and fencing (men / women) in Parbat, and proposals will be sent to the NSC to.

“We have sent a proposal taking into account the condition of the sports infrastructure and the attractiveness of sport in the area,” said Yogi, the agency’s director.

Rs’ budget has been allocated from the NSC in the current financial year for the construction of the sports infrastructure required for the national games. Sports clubs aiming for the ninth national match have started training and practicing players in Pokhara.

The provincial sports council has also awarded Rs. 5 million for the supply of sports materials to sports clubs focusing on national sports.

Dhwaj Kumar Gurung, Vice-Chairman of the Board, shared that the necessary sports equipment will be provided after the date of the games is confirmed.

Similarly, the county government has granted Rs. 20 million for the construction of sports infrastructure.
