Michigan State Football: Showing kickoffs and depth chart in Peach Bowl vs. Pittsburgh

Michigan State Spartans y Pittsburgh Panthers in Peach Bowl tonight’s game between the two teams, both of which exceeded expectations this season. Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker hasn’t released a public depth chart this season, and while he’s been a little less mysterious about the list lately, he doesn’t plan to release it for this game either. Based on past game results and list reports, I have predictions about who we’ll see as starters and reserves.

Playmaker

Started by Payton Thorne

Security: Noah Kim or Anthony Russo

Payton Thorn has the opportunity to set Michigan State’s one-season records in touchdowns and total yards, with the offensive attack likely to rely on the feed game.

Unless the outcome of the game is decided or gets out of hand, I don’t think Anthony Russo or Noah Kim will get any schnapps.

Run back

Starter: Kenneth Walker III Elijah Collins / Jordon Simmons / Harold Joiner

Equipment: Elijah Collins, Harold Joiner, Jordon Simmons

Kenneth Walker III has made the (wise) decision to overtake the Peach Bowl and prepare for the NFL draft. Instead, we’ll probably see trio runners, maybe more. Elijah Collins received five transfers against Penn State after receiving three transfers State of Ohio and seems to be the guy who gets his first chance on the field. Harold Joiner III and Jordon Simmons also see action, although Pitt’s running defense is strong and may force MSU’s hand to run less and feed more. Could we also see the red-shirted freshman Donovan Eaglin? We’ll find out.

Wide receivers

Beginners: Jayden Reed, Jalen Nailor, Tre Mosley

Backups: Montorie Foster, Terry Lockett, Christian Fitzpatrick, Keon Coleman

The good news came from a break in form or the possibility of Jale Nailor and Jayden Reed into the final game of the season. Nailor returns after a hand fracture, while Reed has suffered an unspecified injury. Spartans may try to include a big-body pass-catcher during the bowl, so maybe Christian Fitzpatrick or Keon Coleman will see the action.

Tight head / H-back

Backup: Maliq Carr

Unfortunately, the tight round doesn’t have the same good news as Tyler Hunt is unlikely to be available due to injury. However, MSU has at his disposal Connor Heyward’s flexible skill set as he plays in his last college match against the school where his father played in the 1980s. This feels like a place where Heyward could have a great day. In addition, this is a good opportunity for Maliq Carr to get more repetitions and be more focused.

Left Takla

Backups: AJ Arcuri, Dan VanOpstall

Mel Tucker said Jarrett Horstin was “suspicious” of playing against the Panthers. Horst has not been in uniform since the October 30 victory over Michigan. If Horst is not available, look for AJ Arcuri to steer the left rear seat. It has been rumored that the Peach Bowl will give Geno VanDeMark and Brandon Baldwin the right time to get to the Michigan State field. It is important to get the youth movement off the offensive line, and early signs suggest that there may be a lot of abrasion in this group of stations. The particularly offensive Takla is a place that needs more depth.

No surprises for the defenders, Jacob Slade and Simeon Barrow are talented in tandem. Maybe Jalen Hunt looks a little more explosive in the game against Pit – much was expected of him this season, and he struggled with a foot problem for a significant portion of the 2021 season.

Defensive heads

Starters: Jacub Panasiuk and Drew Beesley

Reserve: Drew Jordan, Jeff Pietrowski, Michael Fletcher

The Peach Bowl is the last time three of the top five defensive heads will hit green and white – Jacub Panasiuk, Drew Beesley and Drew Jordan will use all their qualities after the game on December 30th. Panasiuk and Beesley are beginners, while Jordan and Pietrowski tend to meet two deep. Based on the post-game releases, it is possible that we may see some younger players so the staff can get a live action tape for reviews.

Linebackers

Beginners: Noah Harvey, Cal Haladay

Backups: Ben VanSumeren, Ma’a Gaoteote,

Quavaris Crouch is “skeptical,” which makes me believe he’s really gone. Noah Harvey is again invited to meet Crouch, and he forms a pair of glove-free chicken in Cal Haladayin. It takes some time for Ben VanSumeren and Ma’a Gaoteote, the latter to have found the transition challenging and hopefully with a few weeks of bowl practice they can start playing a little faster and show off their tools, leading to his top. four-star recruitment status – transfer clubs are on the horizon and it’s time to cut their own space.

Corner heads

Beginners: Ronald Williams, Chester Kimbrough

Backups: Marqui Lowery, Justin White

I have a little time to heal and check the tape, so I’m looking at a bit of an increase in the chances of Ronald Williams and Chester Kimbrough playing the best game of the 2021 campaign. We’ll definitely see Marqui Lowery, too, and I’m inclined to believe that Justin White has grinded enough to see more time on the field to show what he can do on the big stage.

Nickelback

Darius Snow is a stone-set start. He has had a come out party this year and I am excited about his future. As for the backup, Michael Dowell has decided to go to the transfer portal and skip the bowl game. So who is the reserve nickelback? I do not know. Maybe Lowery, White, Kendell Brooks or maybe we’ll see a player who hasn’t seen the action yet? The Dark Horse is Khalil Majeed, who Xavier Henderson said he had a great bowl training series. Majeed is a freshman walk-on who flew under the radar when he was out of high school football for the last two seasons due to a knee injury in a lacrosse race and a coronavirus pandemic.

Beginners: Xavier Henderson and Angelo Grose

Backups: Kendell Brooks, Tate Hallock, Khalil Majeed

Xavier Henderson and Angelo Grose are beginners and see most of the starts. In need of breathing or injury, Brooks is the most likely reserve, and maybe Tate Hallock or Majeed will see playing time.
