The Ohio State football team played one of the best bowling games I have ever seen. It didn’t look good on them either early on, as they were defeated 14-0 early when the defense was unable to stop anything. In fact, the Buckeyes allowed 35 points in the first half.
In the end, it didn’t matter. the defense made changes in the second half to allow only 10 second half points. They did some plays late when they needed stops. After all this, the story of this game was Jaxon Smith-Njigba and CJ Stroud.
Smith-Njigba set an FBS bowl record with 15 catches of 347 yards and 3 touch points. He was absolutely amazing throughout the game. He was simply undisclosed and made the attack on the state of Ohio dynamic. Stroud did a phenomenal job giving him the ball as well.
Stroud threw the Rose Bowl record at 573 yards with a 37/46 pass. He also made 6 touchdowns in this game, none of which was better than his last touchdown pass to JSN. Stroud proved to be one of the best quarter builders in the country and will be back next year.
This attack was amazing to see after how poorly the defense played most of this game. This will give the Buckeyes a lot of momentum for the period 2022. When a new defense coordinator comes tomorrow, hopefully some of these problems will be fixed.
Winning the game 48-45, as they did, gives Buckeye fans hope that this team will have the mental strength it needs to run in 2022. Many of these guys will return next season, especially on the attacking side of the ball. They showed perseverance at a very high level.
This will probably remain one of the best bowl games of the season, and it’s sure to be a game that Ohio State football fans will never forget either.
