Wellington, January 2

Mahmudul Hasan and Najmul Hossain struck for half a century to accelerate Bangladesh’s strong response to New Zealand’s first pair, with a total of 328 opening trials in Mount Maunganu today.

The tour team finished Day 2/22/23, 153 behind, but hopeful of the first turn after their bowlers did an excellent job in the morning session to limit New Zealand to below 350 points.

Mahmudul, who was only playing his second test, struck resolutely with 70 skipper Mominul Haque at eight at the other end of the Bay Oval.

Previously resumed at 258/5, New Zealand added 70 runs in the morning session before losing their last five runs to three crossings before the lunch break. Night striker Henry Nicholls hit the 12 mark with 75 and was New Zealand’s last hit to fall.

On tour, Shoriful Islam and off-spinner Mehidy Hasan each won three seats.
