SCG Test Day 3, a strange Covid-19 comment by Scott Morrisons

Mr Morrison sat down with Fox Sports commentators Isa Guha and Adam Gilchrist as more than 25,000 spectators dressed in pink to celebrate the legacy of the late Jane McGrath – to name him – and to support those fighting breast cancer.

It came after Mr Morrison announced a $ 40 million grant to the McGrath Foundation to fund breast nurses over the next three years and provide crucial support to 20,000 patients.

“It’s about Australia’s efforts; the government is doing its part. But the reason the McGrath Foundation is succeeding is that Australians are doing their part,” Morrison said in a box.

Guha later asked the prime minister if she would take part in a four-day Women’s Ashes Test between Australia and England in Canberra on 27 January.

She had previously inquired from her about her support and interest in women’s cricket.

“Just down the road from you in Canberra – see you there?” he asked.

“I hope so, I hope so, at the moment my schedule is heavily dependent on Covid and we have many challenges there as we know at the moment,” Mr Morrison began.

“But this is Australia living with the virus, look there and the Australians are getting the virus.”

Gilchrist, the legendary Aussie wicketkeeper, laughed, but seemed confused by the strange comment before quickly changing the subject.

“They really are,” he said before mentioning that Mr. Morrison attended school nearby.

However, the opposition did not miss the opportunity to sweep after many people on social media were confused about what the prime minister meant.

Shadow Assistant Environment Minister Josh Wilson tweeted, “Seriously. What can be accomplished by mixing cricket with stupidity?”

This is not the first time Morrison has had a cricket-related backlash.

During the Black Summer forest fires in November 2019, he was accused of deafness when he tweeted that the Australian cricket team would give firefighters and devastated communities joy.

“There’s going to be a wonderful summer of cricket, and I’m sure the boys will give them something gratifying for our firefighters and the communities prone to the effects of the fires,” he wrote.

Former Independent MP Kerryn Phelps was not impressed and tweeted, “This must be an empathy consultant’s day off.”
