PROVO, Utah– The recruitment path is heating up for BYU football. Not necessarily for the 2022 season, but for the coming seasons when the Cougars are in the Big 12 conference.
This week, BYU football expanded scholarships for the Southern California Quintet, which includes four new ones in the 2023 class and one in the 2024 class. All five players will compete in the same 7-7 team in California called Team Makasi.
Here are five players offered by BYU.
Surahz Buncom, athlete
Buncom is a 6-foot-by-4, 175-pound athlete who plays ball on both sides of the Mater Dei Catholic in Chula Vista, California.

Buncom, recruited in 2023, has bids from BYU and Pittsburgh. He made 467 yards and nine touchdowns in 13 games played.
Jeremiah McClure, Broadband Receiver
McClure is in the same reception room as Buncom Mater Dei Catholic. McClure, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound passport interceptor, has already solicited offers from Michigan, USC and Washington to join its BYU offer.

Marcus Ratcliffe, defensive support
Ratcliffe is preparing for Cathedral Catholic in San Diego. 6 feet 3, 185 pounds defensive back holds Arizona and San Diego State bids.

Chris Snyder Jr., athlete
A two-way player in Mater Dei Catholic, Snyder is 6 feet tall and 175 pounds. In line with its BYU offer, Snyder, nicknamed “Boom,” has deals in, among others, Pitt, Oregon.

Isaiah Buxton, Cornerback
Buxton is the only recruiter for this Southern California quintet in 2024. The 6-foot and 150-pound defensive defender made 29 tackles and four cuts in his second year at Mater Dei Catholic.
