VALPARAISO, Ind. – The women’s IUPUI tennis team will start again this weekend as they travel to Valparaiso on Saturday (January 15) and Purdue on Sunday (January 16). Head coach Jason Suschathe team’s team started strongly in the fall and plans to continue at the same pace in the new year.
Jags opened the fall with a strong performance in Illinois State, fueled by Megan Bernard and flight victories. Samantha Hayward. Marta Krakowski went 2-1 on the flight and Inés Rivera in the overall results 2-2. IUPUI also won doubles Kristal Grubb, Sarah Lounsbury and Christina Stankovic. In the four – handed game, Grubb and Rivera teamed up to win the pair and Gabrielle Ochalik and Stankovic earned a win together in Illinois State. The team’s 13 fall wins gave a strong boost to the spring season.
Suscha’s list consists mostly of juniors and seniors this season, including two fifth-year seniors at Bernard and Grubb. Bernard led the team with five doubles victories last year, mostly in 4th place in the series. Grubb and Ochalik topped the IUPUI lineup, while Lounsbury earned four doubles victories in 3rd place. Hayward also collected four wins in doubles last season.
Jags plans to get back on the tennis court this weekend when they meet in Valparaiso on Saturday at 3pm and then meet at Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday at 3pm.
