Crimson Tide should have a list room if needed

Building the Alabama football list for 2022 isn’t ready in months. The earliest probable date is sometimes in May. The NCAA deadline after which an outgoing player must notify their current school of their intention to transfer is 1 May for 2022 and all subsequent years.

The “spring football drills” will be a late window to move out and get a chance to play elsewhere in 2022. Alabama footballers who want to use spring drills to clarify their 2022 role are taking a risk. The later a player enters the portal, the less chance he has of finding a new and acceptable football home.

Does this mean that more Alabama footballers are coming to the portal now? Such decisions depend on the specific circumstances of each player. Making a decision is often difficult

Tide fans support former Alabama football players

With limited exceptions, Alabama football fans do not openly support a player’s departure. Players who leave are almost always valued for their time in Tuscaloosa. In many cases, fans have a strong desire to see players succeed in a new opportunity. Next fall, Alabama football fans will be turning their attention to Arkansas State and Georgia Tech because of King Mwikuta and Pierce Quick. No Tide fan will support Aggies to fight when Utah State visits Tuscaloosa next fall. But more than a few of us enjoyed starting and playing Xavier Williams well.

The reality of long-time college football is, even the biggest program of all time in college football, which can become a bad fit for a player. Playing football is hard work. Month after month, season after season, little or no gaming activity, justifies trying a new opportunity.

Most players who leave Crimson Tide do it with a heavy heart. They leave friends and mentors behind. Almost to the player, they express their appreciation for the Alabama coaches and staff.

To date, 12 players from the 2021 list have either moved or are currently on the transfer portal. There will probably be more of them. Two or three more, maybe more. Looking at the list and I don’t recognize the players by name, there are still three to six guys, most of whom have been in Tuscaloosa for three seasons or longer who could benefit from the transfer.

If the joint decisions lead to new exits, Nick Saban may add one or two transfers for the 2022 season. He will have a lot of options.
