The Chicago Bears have moved on from the era of Matt Nagy and fired the head coach after four seasons and two playoff games. Nagy finished with a 34-31 record and only one loss (2021) in the Bears, leading to the NFC North title and winning the Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year award in his first season. He was only 22-27 in the three seasons after that.
Chicago also cleaned the house’s front office and kicked CEO Ryan Pace after seven seasons. Pace played only one winning season and two playoff appearances in seven years. The Bears went 48-65 under Pace, who had four losing seasons during their season.
The Bears is looking for a new CEO and head coach, but they have an executive committee looking for the next head coach to lead the franchise. The application committee is composed of Chairman George McCaskey, CEO Ted Phillips, former CEO Bill Polian, Deputy CEO Lamar Campbell and Director of Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Tanesha Wade.

January 17: Bears asks for an interview with Leslie Frazier
According to Jonathan Jones, an NFL insider at CBS Sports, Bears asks to interview Frazier for his position as head coach. Frazier, Buffalo Bills defense coordinator, also interviewed Dolphins. Frazier was the 21-32-1 Vikings head coach for four years and has been the defense coordinator for 13 years in the league. He was a pioneer in the 1985 Bears defense but has never coached in the organization.
January 16: Bears interviews Brian Daboll
The Bears announced the completion of an interview with Daboll on their role as head coach. Chicago is the first team interviewed by Daboll.
January 16: Bears interviews Nathaniel Hackett and Jim Caldwell
The Bears announced that they had interviewed Hackett and Caldwell about their head coaching position.
Caldwell, who last served as assistant head coach / quarterback for the Miami Dolphins 2019, served as head coach of the Indianapolis ColtsandDetroit Lions for seven years. He set a 62-50 record in his head coaching career in three 10-win seasons – including leading the Colts to Super BowlXLIV. He finished 36-28 in four seasons in Detroit, leading Lions to two post-season matches.
January 15: Bears interviews Brian Flores
The Bears announced that they had interviewed Flores for their position as head coach. Flores has also interviewed Texans.
January 12: Bears interviews Doug Pederson
Pederson is the first candidate Bears formally interviewed as head coach. Pederson has also interviewed Vikings, Broncos and Jaguar about their head coach’s vacancies.
January 12: The Bears schedule an interview with Nathaniel Hackett
The Bears will interview Hackett, who is currently Packers’ attack coordinator, on Saturday (via NFL Network Ian Rapoport), joined the Jaguars and Broncos interviews. Jaguars will first go for an interview on Friday and then talk to the Bears and Broncos on Saturday.
January 11: Bears interviews Brian Flores
Chicago took the opportunity to interview Flores (per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero), who was removed from the position of head coach of Dolphins Monday. Flores is the only head coach to start season 1-7 and end the record (2021) as Dolphins went 24-25 during his three seasons with two winning campaigns. Flores won 24-18 in their last 42 games as head coach.
Flores had trouble handing over quarterback Tua Tagovailo and had several staff changes, including four offensive coordinators, two defense coordinators and four offensive line coaches during his three seasons at work. While Flores was able to win in Miami (the first head coach to have had consecutive wins for Dolphins since Dave Wannstedt in 2002 and 2003), continuity was not what owner Stephen Ross wanted.
The Bears is the first team to interview Flores, one of the most sought after candidates in the market.

January 11: Bears interviews Doug Pederson
The Bears interviews Pederson about his vacant head coach position, per CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora. Pederson went 42-37-1 in five seasons at the Eagles, winning two NFC East titles and taking the series to three consecutive playoff games.
Pederson quickly turned the Eagles and became one of only 11 head coaches to win the Super Bowl in their first two seasons as head coach. He achieved this with Carson Wentz, a young quarterback, helping him become an MVP candidate only in his second league season, before the ACL and MCL injuries changed the young quarterback’s fortunes.
Pederson was also interviewed by the Jaguars, and has scheduled interviews with the Vikings and the Broncos.
January 11: Bears asks to interview Brian Daboll
The Bears will use Bills’ line to find their next head coach and ask for an interview with Daboll (According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter). Bills has had one of the best crimes in the NFL in the last two years, and it is thanks to Daboll that Josh Allen has become an elite defender.
Dolphins has also asked to interview Daboll.
January 11: Bears ask permission to talk to Dan Quinn
Quinn is one of the hottest coach candidates on the market after changing the Cowboys defense after just one season. Through the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, The Bears have joined the Dolphins and Broncos to get permission to talk to Quinn. Jaguars is also in combination with Quinn and is asking for an interview with the Cowboys Defense Coordinator.
January 11: Bears look for Matt Eberflus for an interview
The bears asked Colts for permission to talk to Eberflus (per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero), which has led to the top 10 defenders of Indianapolis in three of its four seasons. The Bears are currently the only team interviewing Eberflus.
