Treyaun Webb invented it.
In June, the four-star runner reduced his impressive list of university scholarship offers to three schools – Georgia, Oklahoma and the state of Ohio. He confidently chose Sooners a month later.
Webb (6-1, 205) continued to build his relationship with Oklahoma throughout the fall. He pledged other Sooner promises in his class. Everything was good.
This is college football, but wait for the unexpected. Webb learned this lesson on Nov. 28, when Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley unexpectedly left Norman for USC and brought in assistant coaches and recruits.
Webb announced his resignation From Sooners the same day, Riley left for Southern California.
He concluded his statement “I am open to all schools”.
The competition for his services is fierce.
Webb announced offers or new offers from Louisville, South Carolina, Tennessee, USC, Oregon, Georgia Tech, Baylor, Georgia and Indiana.
Thursday Iowa joined the chase and offered a separation from Trinity Christian in Jacksonville, FL.
“I like how Iowa spins the ball and their system,” Webb told HN.
Hawkeye running coach Ladell Betts, who returned from her alma mater last year after coaching in high school in Florida, is leading the program’s recruitment of Webb.
“He thinks I could be a game changer. I like coach Betts. He’s a cool dude, and I’m starting to get to know him,” Webb said.
Competitors see Webb as a four-star potential player, the country’s 2nd all-around player in 2023 and the 89th player in the class, regardless of ranking.
“I’m going to visit Iowa. However, I don’t know when I’m going to visit,” Webb said.
Webb visited Georgia on Jan. 15, five days after the Bulldogs won the Alabama National Championship.
Academics are a very important part of Webb’s final decision.
“I want to study oil technology or criminal justice,” he said.
Webb topped the Trinity state title last fall. He missed four matches due to injury, but still collected 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns in 10 races.
