Dexter Hockey Drops SEC Tournaments

The young Dexter hockey team continued to struggle last week as it dropped SEC races against SEC Red’s two strongest teams.

Dexter has 12 freshmen this season, so Dreadnaughts was expected to grow in pain.

Dreadnaughts opened the week with a crash for Saline in a 10-1 game that was shortened to two.

Saline quickly jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first set, but Dexter responded when Niko Michos shot from the red line to the corner of the net to cut the Hornets lead to 3-1.

That would be all Dexter would get at night when they could only collect 11 shots online against the Hornets in a loss.

Dexter then took on a strong Pioneer team on Saturday and crashed 5-2.

Pioneer scored single goals in the first two sets and moved on to a 2-0 lead.

In the third installment, Pioneer took another 4-0 lead before hitting Dexter.

Dylan Hutchison sent a beautiful overshoot to open Luc Chesney, who then lifted it to the top corner and cut Pioneer’s lead to 4-1 4:11 left.

Dexter pulled the goalkeeper in the last two minutes and called when Nick Berenson dropped Hutchison’s home and made 4-2 1:17 left.

Pioneer would score an empty goal with 37 seconds left to win.

Dexter dropped to 3-10 in the overall scores of the season.
