Florida Football Notebook: Ty’Ron Hopper Returns to Transfer Portal, Gators Nab Trio 2022 Commits

Florida Gators football is looking forward to National Signing Day next Wednesday at full capacity, but while the program is focused on adding members to its Class of 2022, head coach Billy Napier understands that there will be more exits to his lineup. It’s just the name of the game when coaching changes happen, especially in a program that requires a major overhaul.

In fact, after a weird round-trip round on the transfer portal last week, Florida seems to be finally getting some sort of solution for one of its key defenders in the future. Gators will also fill the aforementioned 2022 category with upcoming freshmen and look for significant additions to the transfer portal that could help them compete immediately.

Jump in (and out)

Just a few days after arriving and leaving the transfer portal in just about an hour, the red-shirt second-year line defender Ty’Ron Hopper returned to the portal on Monday, according to several reports. Although the Gators have seen several portal entries since Dan Mullen’s departure and end up returning to the list, most of the players looking to transfer will eventually continue.

That’s certainly not a positive for Florida, as Hopper became arguably the team’s most valuable defensive player during the season. Hopper recorded a total of 28 tackles (19 alone, six losses) with two sacks and a forced brawl in the final three games of the Gators. And that’s because he didn’t complete the 2021 Gasparilla Bowl, where he was knocked out in the third quarter because of an alleged throw-in that looked scary at the replay.

Hopper was believed to be a potential defense leader in 2022, so his likely departure, along with junior LB Mohamoud DIabate (Utah), will put Florida in a difficult position. The Gators have a gap in the middle of their defense that they must fill before the start of the season.

How special will it be?

When Napier completed his 10-man coaching team last week, Florida officially became the latest to join a small group of FBS teams without a special coach on the field. For the first time, the Gators don’t have a dedicated aide to commemorate this task, and they stand alongside just seven FBS teams (one of which has already hired a special team coach) who didn’t have a place filled on the field. staff last season.

The program announced Friday that Chris Coach has joined Napier’s field staff as a “GameChanger Coordinator.” Couch works as an analyst in charge of special groups. Gators won’t end up in one of the best recruiting classes in college football by the end of National Signing Day, but Napier has already made significant strides in adding key talent to the weak class led by Mullen. There is now competition between Florida and other sports to the finish line, which led Napier to accept commitments from three potential companies in the last couple of days after a big UF recruitment weekend.

Three-star tight-lipped Hayden Hansen (Weatherford, TX), defending lineman Andrew Savaiinaea (Graham, WA) and supporter Bryce Capers (Jacksonville, FL) have all committed to the program over the past couple of days. Hansen and Savaiinaea both receive scholarships, while Capers joins the program as a primary walk.

Hansen (6 feet 5, 250 pounds) is a full-bodied tight who was previously Naiper’s committed in Louisiana. Savaiinaea (6 feet 3, £ 258) plays against Florida at home in the state of Washington. Caprices (6-foot-4, 219 pounds) is a local product that is excited to play close to home.

Gators is now ranked 33rd in the 2022 team categories according to 247Sports Composite. They hope to add a few bigger ticket potential in the next few days before looking for more talent on the transfer portal this spring and early summer.
