Athletes trying to play a gentleman’s game are not new. Australian tennis superstar Ashleigh Barty was also found praising her cricket skills in a widely circulated video on Twitter. The official handle of the Australian Open shared a few videos where Barty hit, scored and also spun his hands.

Barty, 25, who will face Madison Keys in the semifinals of the Australian Open, was once also a professional cricket player. She took a break from her tennis career in 2014 and a year later signed a contract to play in the women’s Big Bash League, Australia’s elite T20 elite tournament. She arrived at Brisbane Heati, a popular franchise with teams in both the women’s and men’s BBL.

Barty, who had no formal training in the sport, played a total of 10 matches and had the Heat’s highest score, 39. He soon realized his vocation was not cricket and moved back to tennis.

“It was a really great time in my life,” Barty had said about his cricket career in 2019.

“I met an amazing group of people who couldn’t care whether I could hit a tennis ball or not. They accepted me and they got to know Ash Barty. They got to know me. I still have those relationships with this. I got an amazing amount of messages from them in the last couple of days from cricket girls who were my best friends. “

World number one Barty on Tuesday Jessica Pegula 6-2, 6-0 in just 63 minutes to reach the fourth Grand Slam semi-finals. She will compete as the first Australian woman to win the Australian Open in Melbourne since Chris O’Neil in 1978. She will face Madison on Thursday to reach the finals.

Barty’s recent show at the Australian Open was also praised by cricketer Steve Smith, who says the tennis superstar is doing exceptionally well at the moment.
