Rick Bennett resigns from the Union

Union College announced Friday that it will be the head coach of men’s hockey Rick Bennett has resignedeffective immediately.

Last Thursday, Union placed Bennett on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into an allegation the school received on Wednesday night. According to a press release announcing the resignation of the Union, the accusation concerned Bennett’s coaching style and practices. These claims were confirmed in a school study that led to Bennett’s resignation.

Bennett had been in the Union since 2005 and has been the Dutch head coach since 2011. In 2014, he led the school for their only national championship.

Assistant coach John Ronan, who had served as interim head coach while Bennett was on holiday, will continue as interim head coach in the Union for the remainder of the season. Union is in the 8-12-3 season, and he lost to Oale in overtime and defeated Dartmouth last weekend in his first games at the helm of Ronan.
