The inauguration of the Georgian football coaching staff will be restored as the national signing date approaches

If you’ve been following social media, you’ve probably seen Georgian coaches across the country visit with some of the best people in the country in different recruitment categories.

This should come as no surprise as head coach Kirby Smart emphasizes the importance of recruitment. January is the contact season according to the NCAA recruitment calendar, allowing coaches to be in face-to-face contact with potential off-campus. For Smart, he can only make these trips again in September.

Starting Monday, the recruitment schedule will move to a dead end, limiting contact between coaches and potential recruiters. Hay is in the proverbial barn at that point.

This means that Smart will pay full attention to its coaching staff, who have been a brief field assistant. Dan Lanning is now the head coach of Oregon, leaving his position as defense coordinator and coach for outside linebackers. Cortez Hankton, meanwhile, joined LSU’s coaching staff and created an opening for a wide receiver coaching position.

As for the opening of the Defense Coordinator, Smart quickly announced that Glenn Schumann and Will Muschamp would serve as Defense Coordinators. Schumann worked as an intern coach, and Muschamp served as special team coordinator last season.

An easy solution would be to move Muschamp as an outside linebackers coach and promotion to Scott Cochran back as a special teams coordinator. Cochran originally dominated this title before he had to resign from the team in August. He returned in October and worked as an analyst.

However, Smart has shown that he is willing to be creative with his coaching staff, and he doesn’t always make hiring so-called easy. That’s how Cochran ended up being part of the Georgian staff when Smart plucked from Alabama after his long-term role as a strength and fitness coach.

Until then, many had not heard of Lanning when Georgia hired him to coach outside line players after the 2017 season. He had only spent two seasons in Memphis as an indoor team coach before arriving in Athens.

McClendon would be the biggest swing in the crowd, as he is currently scheduled to serve as a broad-based coach and attack coordinator in Miami under Mario Cristobal. McClendon spent the last two seasons in Oregon with Cristobal and was previously a four-season leader in South Carolina when Muschamp was head coach. McClendon also served as Gamecocks ’attack coordinator in 2018 and 2019.

Rentals after the nationwide signing date are fast becoming the norm in college football, and Georgia is no different in this regard. Bulldogs must also be tired of hiring the NFL, especially for Monken. Athleticin Bruce Feldman previously said he could consider returning to the right opening. Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien has also been named as a potential candidate for the New England Patriots offensive coordinator in the event it opens.
