Boston College
Many are mixed in both conference and national champions, including Northeastern women’s hockey.

Many local Division 1 college sports teams are competitors in their respective conferences, and a few seem to have legitimate victories in the national champions. However, several others are struggling to get to the beat and are in dire need of a winning streak.
Here’s a closer look at the success of Massachusetts teams from Northeast Women’s Hockey to UMass Women’s Basketball at Boston University Men’s Basketball and American International Men’s Hockey.
Boston College
Women’s Basketball: Boston College has a 14-6 general and 5-4 conference on Saturday. The Eagles have taken care of Harvard, Northeastern, and UMass at other Massachusetts schools, but they lost to Boston University. They shocked Notre Dame recently and are currently listed as the 11th seed on ESPN’s latest Bracketology.
Women’s Hockey: BC is 14-11 in the overall standings and 12-8 in the conference game. The Eagles have won four in a row and are playing their best hockey of the season. The match with Boston University is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
Men’s Basketball: The Eagles, who were last selected at the Atlantic Coast Conference, are 8-11 overall and 3-6 in the conference game. They have earned key gains from Notre Dame, Clemson and Virginia Tech, but have had difficulty creating consistency so far.
Men’s Hockey: BC has had an unusually weaker year so far and is currently 10-11-4. The Eagles ’last win came in December.
Boston University
Men’s Basketball: The Terriers are currently 15-8 overall and 6-4 in the conference game, and are looking for their first NCAA tournament appearance after 2011. They lost to ACC candidate Florida State in just one overtime in November.
Women’s Basketball: The overall situation at Boston University is 11-8 and in the conference game 7-1 on Saturday morning. The Terriers have been aiming for their first league championship since 2003.
Men’s Hockey: BU is at a 12-10-3 record right now in the middle of the pack. The Terriers recently won the defending championship UMass 6-4 on Tuesday and will face Providence on the horizon.
Women’s Hockey: BU is 10-9-4 in total points and 9-6-3 in the conference, playing a 5-2-2 record at home. A game against BC on Sunday and the 43rd Annual Women’s Beanpot await both.
UMass
Women’s Basketball: UMass is one of the most promising teams in the state and is currently 15-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference game. However, three out of four minutewomen have lost and they want to get back on track.
Men’s Hockey: The defending national champions are 12-8-2 overall and 9-4-2 in the conference game. They’ve faced a scary schedule, and they’ve had the enviable fate of getting the best of every team, but a deep run is certainly not out of the question.
Men’s Basketball: Minutemen is overall 9-10 and 2-5 in the always difficult Atlantic 10. UMass is 7-2 at home and 1-5 everywhere else and is currently down seven out of ten.
Northeastern
Women’s Hockey: The Huskies are probably the state team with the best chance of winning a championship in any sport. The overall score is 21-3-1 and has a good chance of earning first place in the NCAA tournament. The Huskies dropped a heartbeat in Wisconsin in the national championship series last year and plans to finish their work from their first championship this season.
Men’s Hockey: Starting the season 16-5-1, the Huskies have dropped three falls in a row and are looking to get back on track. The beanpot begins with a major clash against Boston College and is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 7th.
Women’s Basketball: On Saturday, three of the last four winners, the Huskies, will be 11-7 overall and 5-3 in the conference. They are in fifth place in the Colonial Athletic Association, only half of the third in the game.
Men’s Basketball: Northeastern is collapsing, and its record of 6-14 doesn’t tell it all. The Huskies are 0-9 in a conference game, have lost 10 tubes and are currently trying to find some sort of identity.
Harvard
Women’s Hockey: Harvard have won for six consecutive Saturday mornings and will shift their records during the conference to 15-5 and 12-3. Crimson beat Boston College 5-2 in November and Yale 3-1 in January and is also preparing for Beanpot.
Men’s Hockey: Crimson has a total score of 10-7-1 and a 8-5-1 record at the conference. A key match with Cornell on Saturday night awaits as Harvard tries to make noise.
Men’s Basketball: Harvard is 10-7 overall and 2-3 in the Ivy League. There’s still a lot to play, even though Princeton is 15-3 (5-0) and can be hard to catch up with.
Women’s Basketball: Crimson recently beat Dartmouth, 96-62, and Cornell, 89-47, to shift their record to a perfectly steady overall score of 9-9 and in the Ivy League 3-3. They are 5-1 at home and 4-7 on the road.

Women’s Basketball: Holy Cross fought the state’s enemies Northeastern, Boston College and UMass at the start of the season, but has won 12 of the last 16 and set a record of 13-7 overall and 7-2 in the conference game. The Crusaders are currently in the semifinals at BU in the Patriot League, and it looks like both schools have a chance to qualify for the NCAA tournament.
Men’s Hockey: Holy Cross is 6-18-2 in the overall standings and 4-11-2-1 in the conference game. The Crusaders have struggled against state teams and are 2-9-1 down the road.
Men’s Basketball: The Crusaders have had a tough time this year. They are currently 4-15 overall and 2-5 in the conference, even though they beat Lehigh 67-65 on Friday. Next meeting with Boston University.
Women’s Hockey: Holy Cross is 3-21 overall and 1-18 in the conference. BU’s 2-0 win in November was the highlight.
Merrimack
Men’s Hockey: Merrimack is 12-11-1 and in the conference 7-8 and has earned wins from Boston University and Boston College. The Warriors lost to UMass by one goal in both encounters.
Men’s Basketball: The Warriors have challenged themselves and scheduled games with Rutgers, Virginia Tech, Gonzaga and Indiana. They have lost all matches and are 8-13 in the overall standings and 4-5 in the conference game, and currently have a five-match losing streak.
Women’s Basketball: Merrimack is 6-11 overall and 4-5 during the conference, but is currently in the two-match winning streak, beating Wagner and Bryant.
Women’s Hockey: Merrimack is 5-19-1 overall, 4-15-1 in the conference and has lost to eight tubes.
UMass Lowell
Men’s Hockey: Count the River Hawks as a competing team for the league and national championships. They are 14-5-3 overall and 11-4-1 in the conference and have won the BU, BC, UMass penalty shootout and Northeastern.
Men’s Basketball: The River Hawks, who missed just one win in the NCAA tournament last year, earned a big win from Dayton in November and are now 10-9 overall and 2-5 in the conference game.
Women’s Basketball: UMass Lowell has canceled several games and is currently 6-8 overall and 3-2 in the conference. It has won three out of four and ranks fifth in the East of America.
American International
Men’s Hockey: The Yellow Jackets are 14-9-1 in the overall standings and 13-4-1 in the conference game. They have earned 11 wins in a row and are currently on their way to their fourth consecutive Atlantic Hockey Association championship.
Bentley
Men’s Hockey: The Falcons, who won Boston College in October, are 12-11 overall and 10-7 in the conference. They have lost two in the pipeline and have the Rochester Institute of Technology on the horizon.
