Men’s Tennis Competes At ITA Kickoff Against No. 6 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The Ball State men’s tennis team was back in action on Saturday afternoon as the Cardinals competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Tournament which is being held at the Boar’s Head Sports Club on the campus of Virginia.

BSU (2-1) dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 6 Virginia (3-0).

Even though the Cavaliers took the doubles point from the Cardinals to the Ball State No. 3 duo of Vince Orlando and Parrish Simmons were tied 4-4 against Virginia’s Bar Botzer and J vd Schulenburg before play was Discontinued.

In singles action, Virginia won the match after taking straight set victories on the top three courts from Ball State.

On the top court, senior Danilo Kovacevic did earn five games against Botzer, 6-1, 6-4. At the No. 2 spot, senior Thibault de Negri took three games from Schulenburg 6-1, 6-2 and newcomer Nathaniel Webster also registered three games over Ryan Goetz on court three, 6-3, 6-0.

The Ball State men’s tennis team will now face Middle Tennessee in the consolation match on Sunday at 10 am. ET.
