NFL rumors: Did Joe Theismann leak a new name for the Washington Football Team prematurely?

At least that seems to be the case after the legendary DC quarterback Joe Theismann apparently hinted at a name change on Monday in an interview CBS Sportsin Damon Amendolara.

“I think Commanders is a name that I hope people will keep going. … There were so many options, but once again, it’s trademark infringement, it gets approval from different people. If you choose a name, is there a group that doesn’t like it? There are so many things you need to consider. Commander, it’s basically Washington, DC. Many commanders in Washington DC and the Pentagon, and many different areas of service. So I think that’s the way I look at it as leaders when it comes to the new name.

However, after an interview with Theismann, 1983 NFL MVP that led to Washington’s victory Super Bowl XVII, contacted Washington Times Matthew Paras goes back to his radio interview.

I just got this text from Joe Theismann: “I’m not entirely sure what the new name is. No one has told me. Like you, I’ll know on Wednesday.”

Theismann is not just a football legend in DC He was born in New Brunswick, went there South River High School, and he was taken in New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2011.

As for the Washington Football Team, it will officially announce a new name on Wednesday. The team ended up being called the “Redskins” before the start of the 2020 season.
