The No. The 3-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team (8-1, 4-1 Big Ten) will return to the road this Friday (Feb. 4) for the top-10 Matchup at No. 8 Nebraska (5-2, 2-2 Big Ten) at the Devaney Center. The dual is slated for an 8 pm CST start and will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.

• Michigan has scored bonus points in half of its dual-meet wins this season, with 34 bonus wins out of 67 total wins. UM boasted a season-best seven bonus wins against Maryland last Sunday (Jan. 30).

• Graduate students Nick Suriano is 6-0 on the season with five bonus wins at 125 pounds. He boasts a pair of top-10 wins, defeating Penn State’s seventh-ranked Drew Hildebrandt (2-1, Jan. 21) and Minnesota’s ninth-ranked Patrick McKee (14-6, Jan. 28). Suriano, who joined the Wolverine program as a grad transfer this semester, was the 2019 NCAA Champion at 133 pounds while at Rutgers.

• Graduate students Logan Massa rallied to beat Ohio State’s seventh-ranked Ethan Smith 10-5 using a third-period Takedown, a four-point bow and arrow and riding time to earn his first ranked win of the season. Massa scored a first-period fall against Pitt’s Hunter Kernan (2:18) in his dual debut the week before for his 100th career win at Michigan. He is now 104-25 over six Collegiate seasons and became the 38th Michigan Wrestler to achieve the milestone.

• Two more Wolverines are bearing down on the 100-win milestone. Graduate student Stevan Micic owns a 96-16 record, while Patrick Brucki, who spent his first three seasons at Princeton, is now 95-20 in his collegiate career. Last season, Myles Amine became the 37th Wolverine Wrestler to reach 100 wins and now boasts a 112-22 record.

• Myles Amine made his season debut at the MatMen Open (Dec. 29-30), posting a 4-0 record en route to the 184-pound title and the tournament’s outstanding Wrestler honors. He defeated a familiar foe in the NCAA Champion and former Penn State standout Mark Hall, 4-2, in the final, scoring the deciding points off a last-second takedown in the first period. It was Amine’s first win over Hall; they went 0-5 against the Nittany Lion while both were in college – all five matches were decided by a single point.

Scouting the Opponent

Nebraska: The Cornhuskers enter the weekend with a 5-2 dual record and are 2-2 in the Big Ten Duals, including back-to-back road wins against Wisconsin (22-12, Jan. 21) and Northwestern (23-12, Jan. 23) in their most recent action. Eight Husker wrestlers are ranked nationally, notably No. 3 Eric Schultz (197 pounds), no. 5 Peyton Robb (157) and No. 5 Mikey Labriola (174). Michigan trails 9-5 in the all-time series against Nebraska dating back to 1942. Nebraska claimed the most recent meeting, a 25-15 decision two seasons ago in Lincoln.

The Wolverines claimed a pair of Big Ten dual wins last weekend, earning a gritty 20-14 Victory at home against No. 16 Minnesota (Jan. 28) before Rolling to a 40-2 Rout at Maryland (Jan. 30). Nick Suriano (125 pounds) Secured another top-10 win with a 14-6 major decision over Minnesota’s ninth-ranked Patrick Mckee, while Dylan Ragusin (133) and Logan Massa (174) both rallied to earn a decision wins against the Golden Gophers. Michigan claimed bonus points in seven of nine wins against Maryland, including a first-period fall from Jack Medley in the first bout at 125 pounds and tech falls from Ragusin and Mason Parris (Hwt).
