Ralf Rangnick explains that Jesse Lingard failed to resign from Man Utd and the talks revealed a turning point

Manchester United head coach Ralf Rangnick has revealed that Jesse Lingard’s late change of mind influenced the decision on his future during the January transfer window.

Indeed, Rangnick admitted that Mason Greenwood’s arrest was a factor in why Lingard stayed.

However, the manager also stressed that United had to reach an agreement with the interested party, which did not happen.

“For me, this was a decision I could fully understand. That was two things. One problem is Mason Greenwood’s problem and the fact that he is without a player who has played regularly for the past couple of weeks.

“And on the other hand, the club couldn’t find an agreement with any other club.”

Lingard found himself in the same situation last January when he moved to West Ham and flourished. Now, however, he is on hand for the last six months of his Old Trafford contract and will be a free agent in the summer.
