Rafael Nadal hints he may miss two tournaments and Australian Open wins pay his taxes | Tennis Sport

Rafael Nadal has admitted he may be forced to change his schedule to take care of his body after winning his recent Australian Open. The Spaniard won the honor in Melbourne only for the second time in his career last month to get a perfect start to this year’s Grand Slam.

Nadal won the challenge set by Daniil Medvedev in an exciting and thrilling final on Sunday to end his 13-year fruitless cut at the Australian Open.

He dropped the first two sets, but successfully fought back off the edge to win the remaining three and regain the desired trophy.

The 35-year-old is now set to prepare for the French Open later this year by taking part in a handful of warm-up tournaments before the action begins at Roland Garros.

However, it looks like Nadal could still decide to take it easy in the coming months as he strives to preserve his body.

He told reporters after his recent victory in Medvedev that he had been “physically destroyed” and has since revealed that he could skip Acapulco and Indian Wells to minimize the risk of injury.

“I signed up for Acapulco and Indian Wells, but I have to make a decision that is in line with what my body allows me to do,” Nadal said on Wednesday.

“Acapulco is closer [and] I would like to be there, but I have to see what the point is. “

Nadal withdrew from Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics last year to continue his career before being sidelined for the rest of the season due to a leg injury.

It remains to be seen whether he will withdraw from troops like Acapulco and Indian Wells before the French Open as he seeks to maximize his chances of adding another Grand Slam crown to his achievement record.

DON’T

He has more Roland Garros titles in his name than any other player in history, and a Manacor native has won the grand prize in Paris 13 the last time.

However, he lost last year’s crown after losing to potential champion Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.

Former world number one Alex Corretja recently announced that Nadal is determined to find his best shape in the months leading up to the tournament to justify his position as an early favorite.

“For Rafa to win the Australian Open, he should give him fresh air to go to Roland Garros and make a good schedule to get there to the best of his ability,” Corretja said. Tennis 365.

“He doesn’t have to play 10 more tournaments before Roland Garros.

“All he has to do is choose exactly where he wants to be and how he gets to Roland Garros in perfect condition to beat the second Major.

“I think if he’s in good shape, it’s very hard to beat him, but there are still many months left.

“We have to move forward one day at a time, step by step, because tennis has shown us that everything can change at one point.”
