Nicolas Tagliafico SLAMS Ajax was blocked from having a “dream opportunity” to join Barcelona in January

Ajax left defender Nicolas Tagliafico hit a Dutch club when it blocked his move to Barcelona in the January transfer window.

The Argentine national team player was heavily tied to last month’s move to Nou Camp, and Xavi wanted to offer more protection to the underperforming Jordi Alba.

Tagliafico, 29, has fallen in Ajax under Erik ten Hagi and had indicated he wanted to leave, but the Eredivis masters refused to accept his departure because they could not find a suitable replacement in time.

Tagliafico joined Ajax from Independence in 2018 and has won two league championships and two domestic Cups in Amsterdam.

However, he has been limited to just two starts at Eredivisi this season after Daley Blind has nailed left-back at Johan Cruyff Arena.

Barcelona offered 18-year-old Alejandro Baldea a loan to Ajax as part of a proposed deal to acquire Tagliafico last month, but there seemed to be little interest from the Dutch or Balde himself in doing so.
