10! Lee’s perfect rods help no. 6 Auburn road program record 197,750

BATON ROUGE – It was a fun Saturday afternoon at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center when Auburn’s 6th gymnastics team set a program record of 197,750 as freshmen. Sunisa Lee earned the perfect score for the bars and the best ever program. The host and No. 8 LSU won by 197,975.

“I’m really proud of the group tonight,” head coach Jeff Records said. “This is a really tough environment at LSU, and they handled it wonderfully. We set a program record in points and got the first 10 in 20 years. It was great to see the team fight and with big routines.”

“We gave everything we got today,” Lee said. “We know we still have so much to improve, so seeing these results is encouraging and it just shows how much potential we have.”

The team’s score broke the record for the show on February 27, 2015 at Auburn Arena.

“Doing this on the road is awesome,” Graba added. “I love the atmosphere here and this is so good for a young team. We’ll come to LSU and do well, and this will only make us better.”

Lee grabbed the series championship with a score of 39,825 and set an Auburn record in the category. This score is also the best in the country so far this season.

His score of 10.0 was the first time since 2004 that Tiger was fully rewarded. In addition, Lee grabbed the beam with a crown value of 9.975. He increased his career highs in the vault and floor, scoring 9.9 and 9.95.

“This means a lot to me,” Lee said. “I’ve always watched college gymnastics, so competing in college, getting 10 points and the first 10 in Auburn for a long time feels so unreal.”

“His bars have been like that for the last couple of weeks,” Graba said. – This result should not surprise us, because he has been so consistent in this event.

As a team, Auburn scored high in all classes. The team’s 49,475 vaults ranked third best in program history, while the 49,550 radius was exactly second.

Senior Derrian Gobourne and freshman Sophia Groth there were also great performances for Tigers. Groth earned 9.9 or better to earn his career records in every event competing. He came second with a radius of 9.95 and added a couple of 9.9 seconds in the vault and floor.

“This environment was insane, and I just wanted to use that energy,” Groth said. “Our theme for this week was leveling up, and I think everyone did a little better today and it showed.”

Gobourne led the team in the vault with 9.95 and was the best of his career. He followed with a score of 9,925 on the floor and earned his fourth score in a row, 9,925 or better. Gobourne scored 9.875.

Tigers will return to Auburn Arena on Friday night for a match with another top 15 opponent in Missouri. The two teams will meet on February 11 at 8pm on the CT SEC Network.

BARS

Auburn started the match with 49,350 bars in the first round. Lee’s 10.0 device had its first time since 2000 when Tiger earned full marks on the bars. Gobourne followed with a score of 9,875, while juniors Aria Brusch and Cassie Stevens chipped in a pair of 9.85s. Junior Adeline on Saturdays ended the result with 9.775.

VAULT

The Tigers collected two in the vault in 49,475 rounds, marking the third best vault result in program history. Gobourne led the win with 9.95 and was the best of the season and placed second. Groth and Lee and the Fifth Year Drew Watson all came in third with 9.9, the best in the careers of Groth and Lee. Freshman Sara Hubbard and a sophomore Tara Walsh earned 9,825 s to increase team points. It was also the pinnacle of Walsh’s career.

FLOOR

Auburn moved to the floor in third and finished 49,375 despite music malfunctions. Lee’s 9.95 finished second in the overall race and Gobourne followed with a result of 9.925. Groth’s 9.9 and Stevens ’9.875 were the best of the season. Watson’s 9,725 impact on the team’s result.

BEAM

The team finished the match at the top of the season 49,550. This result was exactly the second in program history. Lee once again led the team for the second consecutive 9,975 event. This score gave him the title of bar. Groth finished second in the best time of his career at 9.95. Second year student Olivia Hollingsworth Brusch and Stevens all earned 9,875 s, marking the best of the trio season.
