Three cricket committees will benefit from a private investment initiative

THE Pomeroon, Wakenaam, and Leguan cricket committees were the most recent to benefit from the “Cricket Gear for Young and Promising Cricketers in Guyana.”

The three committees are affiliated with the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB), and each received one box of red cricket balls.

Anil Beharry, one of the partners in this initiative and chair of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), recently visited Essequibo County to observe the selection of officials for the newly elected ECB. There he met with representatives of the committees.

He further explained that after talking to the representatives, he decided to commit to helping them with the balls. The balls he highlights are meant to be used to develop young cricketers.

The balls were handed over to Delvin Austin from Pomeroon, Zaheer Mohamed from Wakenam and Zaman Mustapha from Leguan. They all praised the initiative and expressed their gratitude. They also promised to promote young cricketers in their own areas.

The total cricket-related items collected so far are $ 40,000 in cash, two trophies, three cricket boots, 12 pairs of punching pads, 14 rackets, nine pairs of punching gloves and four cricket bags.

To date, 23 young players from Essequibo Coast, Pomeroon, Georgetown, East Canje, East Coast Berbice and Upper Corentyne have already benefited from a junior gear bag, two trophies, nine rackets, one pair of bowling shoes, six pairs of punch pads and six pairs of strokes.

In addition, the Rose Hall Estate Cricket Club benefited from stumps and guarantees and two rackets in the Pomeranian region received two used rackets. The cricket committees of Pomeroon, Leguan and Wakenaam also each received one box of red balls.

This project is a joint initiative of Kishan Das and Anil Beharry of the United States.

Cricket-related items, used or new, are distributed free to young and promising cricketers in Guyana. Skills, discipline and education are important competencies for the recipient.
Talent spotting is done across the country, and club leaders are also helping with this.
