Tennis Wins First Conference Match of 2022

DENTON – Mean Green Tennis (5-1) rebounded in their first conference match of the season defeating UTSA 4-0 Friday at the Waranch Tennis Complex. Sophomore Saki Oyama had a dominating performance in both doubles and singles play falling only in two games total.

SINGLES

• After an injury suffered by Alexandra Weir, Kexuan Zhou won in the sixth position by forfeit.
• Saki Oyama breezed through her first set with a 6-0 Victory, she only fell in two games during set two leading her to Mean Green’s second point.
• Lucie Devier struggled in the one position falling 6-3 in set one and was ahead 4-3 in set two which remained Unfinished.
• Jasmine Adams won her first set and was leading in set two before UNT clinched the match.
• Liisa Vehvilainen only fell in three games through two sets, her match was also Unfinished.
• Maria Ponomareva clinched the match for UNT with a near Sweep only falling in one game over two sets.

DOUBLES

• Devier and Adams fell in their first game quickly, and bounced back in game two. They went back and Forth but eventually clinched the point for UNT.
• Oyama and Vehviliainen made quick work of their match with a Sweep over Jasmine Starr and Stanislava Bobrovnikova.
• Ponomareva and Zhou battled though their first few sets before leading their score to 4-0, they struggled through the next few sets leading to an almost tied score of 5-4. The match remained Unfinished.
