Alabama gets 2nd player in class of 2023 with 5-star Jahlil Hurley

Jahlil Hurley made up his mind about a month ago, he just didn’t tell anyone. The five-star cornerback from Florence prepared to close his recruitment and envisioned a future staying in the state he grew up in.

Before late pushes and offers could Sway Hurley, they reminded himself of something they learned throughout his recruitment: “I dictate my own future.”

On Tuesday afternoon, Hurley revealed his decision, becoming the second player, and the first five-star to join Alabama football’s class of 2023. The constant communication of the Crimson Tide had with Hurley throughout reaffirmed his choice and gave Alabama a building block for the recruiting cycle .

Hurley, listed at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds has been a constant in Florence’s secondary. He entered the year as 247Sports Composite’s No. 22 national prospect and fourth-ranked cornerback. His other Finalists included Georgia, Auburn and others.

Alabama coaches Freddie Roach and Travaris Robinson were his lead recruiters. Roach’s Hometown connection with Hurley was crucial, leading to multiple conversations a week.

“From the beginning,” Hurley said, “I’ve built a special relationship with the coaches.”

At one of his first camps, Hurley was chewed out by Nick Saban over footwork and hand placement. Afterward, the Coach and Recruit went into Saban’s office and broke down techniques. The bond only grew and now Alabama has a Foothold in a strong in-state class.

There are currently 11 Alabama players in 247Sports Composite top-100 rankings, Hurley is the fourth-highest prospect. Alabama’s other Recruit, four-star safety Elliot Washington, committed last month.
