Women’s Tennis Dominates Youngstown State With 7-0 Sweep

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State Women’s tennis team (6-2) earned another 7-0 sweep on Sunday afternoon at the Northwest YMCA this time it was a dominant victory over Youngstown State (4-5).

Ball State won the doubles point after earning wins on courts two and three. Mariya Polishchuk and Jessica Braun breezed through their match on court No. 3 earning a 6-0 take down against the Penguin’s Eliska Masarikova and Maria Oliveira. The doubles point was then claimed after Amy Kaplan and Hannah Davies played a tight match but managed to stay atop of Youngstown State’s No. 2 duo of Jessica Stanmore and Lili Minich to take the match, 6-3.

Although, the doubles point had been won, the Cardinals and the Penguins finished play on the top court. Livia Lukacs and Emma Peeler were down but fought their way back into the match, Unfortunately after taking the lead in the tiebreaker, Peeler and Lukacs would fall to Cecila Rosas and Julia Marko, 7-6 (5).

Ball State quickly went up 2-0 at the start of the singles play after Davies took the first frame 6-3 at position No. 5. Her opponent Lili Minich had to withdraw from the competition due to an injury which ultimately gave Davies the Victory.

After that, Amy Kaplan, who has been successful all season, moved the Cardinals lead to 3-0 after beating Stanmore at the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-1.

Ball State’s match point was claimed by the Cardinals No. 6 singles player Elena Malykh as she cruised past Oliveira, 6-0, 6-1.

Rounding out the remainder points for Ball State today were Polishchuk and Braun both winning in straight sets on courts three and two, respectively.

The Ball State Women’s tennis team will remain at home next weekend when it hosts Cleveland State on Saturday, March 5 at noon.
