UTM TENNIS WELCOMES MISSOURI STATE & CHATTANOOGA IN FIRST TWO HOME BOUTS OF SPRING SEMESTER

MARTIN, Tenn. – It may have taken 33 days and eight matches overall for the University of Tennessee at Martin tennis Squad to reach a home date on the 2022 schedule, but the weekend has finally arrived for the Skyhawks to take their turn as the host with a pair of non -conference meetings on tap this Friday and Saturday.

Emanating from UTM’s backyard, the navy and orange will await Missouri State and Chattanooga 24 hours Apart from the Skyhawk Tennis Complex, taking on the Bears at 4:00 Tomorrow evening before doing the same against the Mocs at 3:00 the next day to close the first weekend of the month.

Although the Skyhawks have found themselves still searching for their first Outright Victory of the 2022 campaign – wrangling 30 singles wins beside 18 more in doubles competition since late January – head Coach Caitlyn Williams‘The club has been surging in the right direction as of late, narrowly falling to both St. Louis and Chicago State on the road last weekend.

One of the reasons for UT Martin’s growing optimism in the latter stages of non-conference territory has been the recent success of junior Aziza Aubinthe recipient of Tuesday’s Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week nod following a 4-0 individual march versus the Billikens and Cougars in her last two appearances.

Winners of 10 singles and doubles sets over their last three matchups, the Skyhawks will open the weekend against a Missouri State team coincidentally also vying for their first W of the year at 0-7. Three of the Bears’ losses over the past month have come by a slim nature, falling to Omaha, Arkansas, and Kansas City on a 12-9 combined margin. The Creighton Bluejays dealt MSU their last setback by a 4-0 clip five days ago.

Riding out the finish of the weekend with a Saturday showdown against Chattanooga, UTM will encounter an in-state foe who has lost four out of their last five contests despite a 5-5 overall record. The Skyhawks and the Mocs share three mutual opponents already at this point on the young season, where UTC recently fell at the hands of Western Kentucky in Bowling Green in a 4-3 Marathon.

UT Martin hopes to avenge 2021’s 5-2 defeat at Chattanooga’s doing on Saturday, before wrapping up a non-conference competition at UNC Asheville and College of Charleston following a two-week break. The OVC opener at SIUE then awaits on March 25^th.
