Hockey should always be for everyone, no matter the circumstance.
In a story written by KARE 11’s Boyd Huppert, Owen Lipinski, a 12-year-old from Minnesota, has a deep passion for hockey. But a medical condition has kept him from playing youth hockey.
Lipinski has Marfan Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder affecting connective tissues in your body. As Huppert pointed out, a bad blow could be life-threatening.
Lipinski takes part in the Minnesota Special Hockey organization, a group aiming to give opportunities for kids to keep playing the game they love no matter the obstacles.
But he wanted to do so much more with the game he loves. So he created his own hockey tournament.
Competing in small teams with other local kids, Lipinski designed logos, jerseys and team names for all six squads, while getting help from friends and family to help bring everything together.
And, most importantly, he brings Joy to everyone involved.
