Fort Worth – The 2022 Big 12 Women’s Tennis Championship will be contested between the top two seeds as No. 1 Oklahoma takes on No. 2 Texas at 11 am Sunday at TCU’s Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The Sooners took a 4-0 win over No. 5-Seeded Kansas on the varsity courts while the Horns bounced back from dropping the doubles point to win 4-1 against No. 3 Oklahoma State on the public courts.

OSU scrapped to win the doubles point with an upset on court one to clinch it. Texas’ No. 72-ranked pair of Kylie Collins and Charlotte Chavatipon notched a clean set, 6-0 over No. 75 Mhai Sawankae and Martina Zerulo but Oona Orpana and Detkovskaya took a 6-3 win against Sabina Zeynalova and Bella Zamarripa to keep the Cowgirls in the fight. Well. 18-ranked Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto Secured the upset of No. 15 Peyton Stearns and Allura Zamarripa on the top court 6-3 to put OSU on the board.

However, the Longhorns took control in singles with Vivian Ovrootsky taking a point on court six with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Miyamoto. Well. 2 Stearns breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 Victory over No. 19 Rioux on court one. Well. 188 Chavatipon defeated Orpana 6-1, 6-2 on court four.

As No. 31 Sawangkae led No. 58 Collins 7-6 (7-5), 2-1 on court two and Allura Zamarripa tied Sofia Rojas 2-2 in the second set after picking up a 7-6 (7-2) first-set win, No. 79 Zeynalova finished the match for the Longhorns. The Kyiv, Ukraine native defeated Zerulo 6-2, 6-1 on court three to send Texas to the Championship match.

OU’s Anchisa Chanta and Dana Guzman kicked off doubles with a 6-4 win over Julia Deming and Malkia Ngounoue on court three. The Jayhawks pulled off a major upset on the top court as Sonia Smagina and Raphaelle Lacasse defeated No.6-ranked Ivana and Carmen Corley. Layne Sleeth and Alexandra Pisavera held off Carmen Roxana Manu and Maria Titova 7-6 (7-3) on court two to clinch the point.

Kansas put up a fight in singles with three of the first sets going to 5-5. However, the OU took early leads on the other three courts. Tenth-ranked Sleeth finished off Titova 6-2, 6-3 on the top court. Emma Staker then defeated Tiffany Lagarde 6-3, 6-2 on court six. Well. 90 Guzman sent the Sooners to the title match with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Roxana Manu on court four.
