NCAA Tennis Championship Draws Announced

TROY, NY – The NCAA Division III Tennis Committees have announced the draws for the 2022 Women’s and Men’s Singles and Doubles tournaments, in which the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) has student-athletes competing. The action begins on Friday morning with singles and in the afternoon for doubles.

The men’s singles begin at 8:45 am and RPI freshman Aiden Drover-Mattinen (Portugal Cove – St. Philips, NL / Blyth Academy) takes on Thomas Yu, a sophomore from Johns Hopkins. The Winner Advances to play at 12:45 pm on Friday against either Stan Morris of Middlebury, the No. 2 seed, or Nyathi Motlojoa of Luther.

Drover-Mattinen is also playing doubles and he and partner Peter Lohrbach (North Port, NY / Little Neck) face a duo from Washington U., Daniel Li and Abhi Ramireddy, at 4pm on Friday. The winners advance to Saturday’s second round, which is scheduled to begin at 3pm.

The Women’s Doubles action starts at 5pm on Friday and Rensselaer’s tandem of Juniors Alex Mednikova (Belle Mead, NJ / Montgomery) and Rani Jones (Newmarket, MD / Oakdale) – the first doubles team in school history to be selected for NCAA play-faces a pair from Bethel, Grace Reirmann and Sydney Rott. Second round action for the victor is Saturday at 3pm.

Mednikova was also chosen for the singles competition – also a first for the program – and plays Cassidy Binder, a sophomore at Pacific, on Friday at 10:30 am. The Winner Advances to the second round and plays either Sarah Pertsemlidis of MIT, the No. 5 seed, or Erin Storrer of Otterbein.

All of the action takes place at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. National Champions in all four tournaments will be crowned on Sunday.
