Greenhills tennis state Champion earns Ann Arbor-area Athlete of the Week honors

ANN ARBOR As just a freshman, Shangyang Xia has already established herself as one of the best young girls tennis players in the state of Michigan.

Xia had an impressive performance at the Division 4 girls tennis state Finals last week and that showing helped her earn this weeks Ann Arbor-area Spring Sports Athlete of the Week Honor.

Xia Secured the No. 2 singles state title with three victories, which helped the Gryphons win their fourth state Championship on Saturday.

The young tennis Phenom Secured the AOTW win by earning more than 11% of the total votes, which surpassed more than 92,000 votes.

Xia beat out Dexter pole vault Sophia Mettes and Ann Arbor Skyline baseball player Landry Jobe to earn the win. Mettes and Jobe each earned more than 9% of the votes.

All 20 Athletes in this week poll had at least 3,000 votes, to make this the most competitive poll this spring.
