With three medals on the clock, the French table tennis team was able to defy the odds during the Gymnasiade. The team events have in particular allowed the Blues to sublimate themselves at home.

At the heart of the Complexe de la Belle toile in Montivilliers, the sound of bullets echoed throughout the Gymnasiade. In a Discipline imposed by Asian countries from the youth categories, the French table tennis team intended to show a conquering face. Especially since it was the team events, often favorable to the Blues, which got the ball rolling. Among the girls, the level of play is there. At the end of a very long group stage, the French players rub shoulders with Brazil in the quarter-finals. This first test passed successfully (4-0). But in the semi-finals, it is China Taipei which stands in the way of Les Bleues. A step too high for the young French women who console themselves all the same with a beautiful bronze medal.

Bronze for girls and boys

For the boys, the group stage is just as long, but also well controlled by the playful and solid Frenchmen. As with the girls, it is Brazil who stand in the way of the Habs in the quarter-finals. There too, the score is final: Victory 4-0. But there again, France must rub shoulders with Chinese Taipei to hope to win a precious ticket for the final. Like the girls, the boys struggle against the best young players in their age category. It is logical that they end up giving in before quickly finding a smile. On the podium, it is indeed a very beautiful Bronze medal which awaited the French.

The surprise for Adrien Coton and Milhane Jellouli

Already successful, the French Table Tennis Gymnasiade took an even more positive turn on the last day of the competition. It is the doubles players who are then in contention. In this little game, Adrien Coton and Milhane Jellouli shine. They first have pairs from Brazil, Chinese Taipei and then the United States, before going to challenge Romania in the final. Supported by the public, on a day when there were very few events left, Adrien Coton and Milhane Jellouli did the job by winning 3 sets to 1 (11-8, 11-2, 8-11, 11-4). An Unexpected success before the start of the event. But the two young ping Specialists joined their
dream: to win at home. Mission accomplished for French table tennis, more than ever destined to bring out a new generation of very high levels.
