Sam Northeast re-wrote a series of records at Grace Road during Glamorgan’s LV=County Championship match against Leicestershire. When the declaration came at lunch today he was unbeaten on 410* having beaten Steve James’ Club record of 309* and registering the third highest score in Championdhip history (writes Andrew Hignell)
The list below shows the top six highest first-class scores for the Welsh county, with Sam’s score being the highest by a Glamorgan batter on English soil and the highest score by an uncapped batter for the Club:

On 283, Sam also completed his 1.00th run of the first-class season. He became the first Glamorgan batter to this Landmark since Marnus Labuschagne on 2nd July 2019, and the first England-qualified since both Aneurin Donald and Will Bragg in September 2016. It was Sam’s 19th first-class innings of the summer and, as the list below shows, only seven batters have reached this Landmark in fewer innings for the Welsh county:
15 – Majid Khan in 1972.
16 – Steve James in 1997 and Marnus Labuschagne in 2019.
18 – Alan Butcher in 1990; Hugh Morris in 1996; Matthew Maynard in 1996; Matthew Goodwin in 2013.
19 – Maurice Turnbull in 1933; Hugh Morris in 1991; Sam Northeast in 2022.
Overall, Sam amassed a record 258* runs in the day, and as the list below shows, this broke Matthew Maynard’s Club record of 238* against Hampshire at Southampton
