MSOC Takes Down Michigan 3-0

MILWAUKEEThe Marquette men’s soccer team (3-1-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) earned its third consecutive victory on Friday night, posting a 3-0 win over Michigan at Valley Fields.

“I thought we played very, very well,” said Marquette head coach Louis Bennett. “We decided at Halftime that we would reiterate what we wanted to do so that they would have to change and not us, and I thought we did Fantastic in the second half. When we got a little fatigued, we made some Substitutions and I thought the guys that came in did a good job. We went to Michigan a few years ago and lost 3-0, so I’m really happy.”

The Golden Eagles started the game with a strong defensive effort in the first half, keeping Michigan to just two shots through the first 45 minutes of action while MU registered six. After the break, Marquette came out firing. In the 53rd minute, sophomore Attacker Abdoul Karim Pare had a shot blocked by a UM defender, but was able to follow it up with another Strike that found the back of the net to get the Golden Eagles on the board. Just a few minutes later, Alex Mirsbergercapitalized is a perfect cross from Edrey Caceres on a corner kick in the 57th minute to make it 2-0.

MU wasn’t done scoring yet, and neither was Pare. In the 67th minute, the Ivory Coast native achieved the first multi-goal game of his Marquette career as he struck once again, with assists coming from Christian Marquez and Ben Barkley. Pare now has three goals on the season to tie the team-high.

For the second-straight game, the Golden Eagles kept their opponent off the board. Senior Chandler Hallwood spent all 90 minutes in goal, facing nine shots and recording three saves. As a team, MU out-shot UM 16-9 on the night.

UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will make the journey to Madison on Monday, Sept. 12, to take on Wisconsin (2-2, 0-0 BIG EAST) at 7 pm at McClimon Track and Soccer Complex.
