SAN DIEGO, CA —The Terps picked up their second Victory of the day in the Aztec Classic, defeating Sacramento State 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 28-26).
Maryland won a competitive first set thanks to four kills and two service aces by Sam Csire. Laila Ricks and Anastasia Russ each added two blocks.
After the Hornets took a back-and-forth second match, the Terps displayed their resilience, fighting back from a late 19-17 deficit to finish the third set on an 8-2 run.
Sparked by four early kills from Rainelle Jones and clutch play late, Maryland took a close final set 28-26. With the two teams trading points from 13-13 onwards, the Terps were finally able to Breakaway late.
Notable Performances
- Csire recorded 14kills, bringing her total for the day to 31.
- After setting a career-high with three aces earlier in the day, Erin Engel set a new career-mark with four aces.
- The Terps recorded double-digit blocks for the seventh consecutive game with 11 today.
Doubleheader Dominance
- The Terps have now swept all three doubleheaders they have participated in this season, winning both Friday games in the Maryland Invite, the Stony Brook Tournament and the Aztec Classic.
- That makes the Terrapins 6-0 on Friday’s this season.
- Maryland recorded 21 aces, 22 blocks, and 95 kills on the day.
