Womens Tennis claims six victories on day two at HEB Invite

WACO, Texas University of Texas Women’s Tennis sophomores Vivian Ovrootsky and Grace Thomas both recorded straight-set singles wins over ranked opponents to highlight the second day of the HEB Invite at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University. Ovrootsky posted a 6-3, 6-2 Victory against No. 67 Avelina Sayfetdinova of Texas Tech, while Thomas earned a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over No. 96 Elsa Thomas of Tennessee.

This marked the second straight day that Ovrootsky claimed a singles victory against a ranked opponent, as she recorded a 6-0, 6-2 win on Friday over No. 115 Olivia Peet of Texas Tech. Thomas registered her first Collegiate singles victory against a ranked opponent with Saturday’s win.

Saturday’s play began with a morning doubles session. The pair of Ovrootsky and Graduate Marlee Zein earned a 6-3 Victory over Brooke Thompson and Paula Baranano of Baylor.

The Longhorns followed by winning four of their five contests in the morning singles session. In addition to the ranked wins by Ovrootsky and Thomas, No. 59 Zein added a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 Victory against Metka Komac of Texas Tech. Junior Simran Kortikere notched her first singles win of the season by rallying for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 Victory over Camryn Stepp of Texas Tech.

In the afternoon doubles session, the tandem of Thomas and freshman Susanna Brass claimed a 6-4 win against Camryn Stepp and Yekaterina Dimitrichenko of Texas Tech.

Play concludes at the HEB Invite on Sunday, Oct. 9 with doubles play scheduled to begin at 9 am Central followed by singles matches at 10 am Central.
