Rohit Sharma-led side is in Australia preparing for their ICC T20 World Cup opener match against Pakistan on 23rd October in Melbourne.
The Men in Blue are top contenders for the title, but Indian experts have doubted the teams weak bowling unit.
Meanwhile, former India head Coach Ravi Shastri has assessed the team and said India will win the ICC T20 World Cup if they improve their fielding.
Notably, their top fielder Ravindra Jadeja is out of the competition with an injury. The team has shown below-par fielding skills in the Asia Cup and recently concluded series against South Africa and Australia.
In an interaction with senior sports journalist Ayaz Memon, Shastri said it is India’s best batting unit in T20Is. The team is the perfect blend of youth, experience, and players peaking in their careers.
Further, Shastri defended the bowlers, who have been at the helm of Massive Criticism for conceding more than 200 runs on several occasions. The 60-year-old said that people blame the bowlers, but the fielders should lift their standards and put brakes on those extra 15-20 runs.
After assessing the Fielding and Bowling unit, Shastri opined his views on the batting line-up, where he mentioned that India’s batting unit alone can lead them to the semi-finals.
They praised the strong middle-order line-up, which gives the top order the license to express themselves.
They then made some bold claims for Kohli, Rohit, and Karthik. Shastri said the upcoming tournament could be the last for these three players.
After this World Cup, India will have a new team similar to the one in the 2007 T20 World Cup, where there was no Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly. The same thing can happen. There is a 50 over World Cup next year, and you don’t want to burden those players.
