Bears Head to Princeton for Friday Night Showdown on ESPNU

PROVIDENCE, RI The Brown football team will face No. 23 Princeton on Friday evening under the lights at Powers Field at Princeton Stadium on ESPNU. It will mark Brown’s first trip to Princeton since the 2018 season, and head Coach James Perry’s first trip back to Princeton after serving as their Offensive Coordinator from 2010-2016.

OPENING KICKOFF

The Bears are coming off a strong defensive effort in last weekend’s 27-20 win at Central Conn. St.
Continuing to build and improve each season, Brown has won two of his first four games for the first time since 2017.
Princeton boasts one of the nation’s top defenses, ranking No. 1 in FCS in scoring defense (9.8 ppg), No. 2 in rushing defense (44.5 ypg) and third in total defense (234.2 ypg).
The Tigers defense has not allowed a point in over two games – over 163 minutes of game time – dating back to the fourth quarter of their Sept. 24 wins over Lehigh.

MARON’S SPECIAL RECOGNITION

Sophomore kicker Christopher Maron was named the Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 10.
2-for-2 on FGs vs. CCSU – His first career-game with multiple made field goals.
Tied his career-long with a 48-yard FG. Tied for 5th-longest in program history.
Perfect 8-for-8 in his career on field goals under 40 yards.

RED HOT DEFENSE

Friday’s Matchup will pit two of the nation’s top red zone defenses against each other.
Brown enters this week fifth in FCS by holding opponents to score on 58.3 percent of their red zone trips (7-for-12).
Princeton holds the top red zone defense in FCS (.400), having only allowed one passing TD and one field goal on their opponent’s five trips to the red through the first four games.

BATTLE AT THE TOP

Princeton QB Blake Stenstrom (273.5) and Brown’s Jake Willcox (265.8) are the top two quarterbacks in the league in passing yards per game.
They are also neck-and-neck for No. 1 in the league in total offense, separated by just 0.3 yards – Stenstrom – 273.8, Willcox – 273.5.

THE BEST FOR LAST

Brown has outscored his opponents 52-14 in the fourth quarter this season, including putting up 21 points in the fourth quarter in each of his first two games.
The 52 points and +38 point differential in the 4th qtr both lead the Ivy League.
Brown has outscored his opponents in the fourth quarter in three out of four games this season.

GETTING THEIR KICKS

Brown enters this weekend No. 2 in the Ivy and 12th in FCS by allowing 2.83 yards per punt return this season, allowing only 17 total return yards on six return attempts.
