Volleyball Comeback to Best Marymount University

Arlington, Va. The Ithaca College volleyball team extended its winning streak to 13 games, with a 32 win over Marymount University on Thursday, October 13. The Bombers made a Furious comeback after dropping the first two sets.

The Saints held a small lead for the entirety of the first set, taking the first set by a score of 25 23. Both teams battled back and forth, trading the lead early in the second set. Tied 1111, the Saints went on a five-point run to get out to a big lead. They held that lead for the rest of the set, winning 2520.

The Bombers regained themselves in the third set, dominating for a 2515 win to stay alive. The Bombers held a small lead before breaking away with a four-point run in the middle of the set.

The Bombers continued their comeback in the fourth set, getting out to an early 105 lead. The Saints fought back, bringing the game back within one point at 1514. Tied at 2020, the Bombers earned two straight points and held off the Saints to send the match to a fifth set.

The Bombers got out to a 63 lead in the fifth set, with Camryn O’Leary getting three kills in that stretch. Ahead 117, the Bombers went on a four-point run to reach 15 points and complete the comeback win.

Camryn O’Leary led the Bombers in the match with 14 kills. Leila Chipepo had 10 kills and was great defensively with six total blocks. Maddie Cox had a great game, earning 37 assists, five blocks and two aces. defensively, Julia Costa had an Incredible game with 34 digs and Jennifer Pitts had eight blocks.

“Tonight it was a tale of two cities. We started off the night very error prone, especially from the service line. Halfway through the match it was a blowout on the box score but we found ourselves down 0-2. It is a Testament to the team and especially to our depth that we found a way to turn it around. You could say we re-invented ourselves, and changed what wasn’t working and found a plan-B. I thought Marymount played very well and any win against a good opponent is a great win, but the way in which our team went about manufacturing the turnaround inspired me tonight.”
